As the only surviving male vocalist of the venerable Buena Vista Social Club, singer and guitarist Eliades Ochoa carries a weighty past. Born in Cuba in 1946, Ochoa learned to play the guitar at age six. As an adult, he performed with many bands, including Cuarteto Patria, a Cuban folk group. But he hit it big in 1997 with the Buena Vista Social Club, whose self-titled album sold several million copies and reignited international interest in traditional Cuban music. Now, with the historic thawing of relations between the U.

S and Cuba, this music is receiving yet another revival!
