商品説明

The last entry in this nine-volume set caps a triumphant reissue series that reveals, perhaps better than any other currently available recordings, the genius of Bob Wills and his band in the mid-1940s, while they were at the peak of their skill and popularity. As always, a major attraction is the smooth but robust singing of Tommy Duncan on such crowd-pleasing tunes as My Life's Been a Pleasure and Milk Cow Blues. And, as always, the exuberant yelps and catcalls of Wills himself are either charming or irritating, depending on your personal inclination. The band's irresistible blend of swinging jazz and stomping Texas two-step country is showcased on instrumentals like 12th Street Rag and Texas Playboy Rag, and even a couple of big band potboilers: In the Mood and Sentimental Journey. In a gesture of inspired kitsch, the band also struts and bounces its way through an up-tempo rendition of What Is This Thing Called Love. Like the other eight volumes in this series, this one should be considered an essential part of any country music collection. ~ Rick Anderson, Rovi

Bob Wills

Bob Wills' name will forever be associated with Western swing. Although he did not invent the genre single-handedly, he did popularize the genre and changed its rules. In the process, he reinvented the rules of popular music. Bob Wills and His Texas Playboys were a dance band with a country string section that played pop songs as if they were jazz numbers. Their music expanded and erased boundarie
