All of the tracks on this CD were made in New York during 1934. At that time the name Benny Goodman meant little or nothing to anyone in America, and certainly in Great Britain, outside the growing (but still very much a minority) group of jazz enthusiasts. By the end of 1935 the twenty-six-year-old clarinetist from Chicago had become the hottest property in the dance band world; he was beginning to be known as “The King of Swing” . and the term “Swing Music” was in common use to describe a new style of dance music. The name was to last for another decade or more. and with it, Benny Goodman ‘s kingdom. This CD features all the jazz luminaries normally associated with Benny: Coleman Hawkins, Jack Teagarden, Teddy Wilson, Ray McKinley, Claude Thornhill, Sammy Weiss on drums and many more. The title list also features unusual items not readily associated with the Benny Goodman Orchestra.
