Art Blakey

1919年米国ピッツバーグ生まれ。90年没。名コンボ、ジャズ・メッセンジャーズのリーダー兼ドラマー。ピアニストから10代後半にドラムに転向。野生味あふれるドラミングでジャズ界を代表するドラマーとなる。54年にハード・バップの幕開けを告げる“バードランド”での歴史的名演を経て、ジャズ・メッセンジャーズを結成。35年間にわたってリーダーを務め、このコンボから多くの優れたジャズマンを輩出した。
