On this CD, Andrew Calhoun translates a dozen ballads, some never before recorded, from Scots dialect - these are stirring, accessible renderings of powerful stories for the modern listener. Tales of fairies and mermaids, sex and murder, war, romance and betrayal, cattle rustling and jailbreaks, are all performed with guitar, fiddle, mandola, harp, hurdy-gurdy, accordion, bass and octave mandolin. Guest musicians include William Pint and Felicia Dale, and Tracy Grammer. Best known as a singer/songwriter, Calhoun spent a year working on these translations.
