Alan Lomax is undoubtedly one of the best known figures of folk music - first as a folklorist and ethnomusicologist who collected many of the great blues and folk artists of the 1940's and 1950's, but also as a writer and a folk performer in his own right. So, of course, this makes his first American LP recorded in 1958, Texas Folksongs, an 'important' album. But it's also an appealing one. Accompanying Lomax's vocals are Guy Carawan on guitar and banjo and John Cole on harmonica.
