• The Russian Orthodox Church is over a 1000 years old. During this period many composers have written music for its rites. Most of them are totally unknown outside the church. There are a few notable exceptions such as Rachmaninov and Arensky. Some of their work is included in this set.
• In Paris (France) the Choir of Alexander Nevsky Cathedral has contributed a great deal to introduce people to Russian Orthodox chant. This professional choir recorded a large number of items of music form the Russian Orthodox church rites by various composers like D. Bortniansky, S. Degtiarov, A. Vedel, A. Lvoff, G. Lvovsky, A. Arkhanghelsky, S. Pantchenko and P. Tchesnokoff.
• Conductor Evgeny Ivanovitz Evetz devoted his life to introducing young people to the history and beauty of the Russian-Orthodox church music. This set of 2 CD’s contains historical recordings dating from 1967.
