１９４９年生まれ｡アメリカ人｡幼年期はモンタナ州で暮らす｡ジャズに憧れて１９６７年にピアノ／オルガンを弾き始めるが､ピアニストのトーマス･ファウツ･ウォーラーを聴いて､一転ピアニストとして活動を始める｡個性的なスライド奏法を生み出し､ウィリアム・アッカーマンの設立したレーベル、ウィンダム･ヒルの看板アーティストとして､人気のあるアーティスト｡
