カール・ジェンキンスは２０１０年ＣＢＥを受け、現存の作曲家として最もポピュラーな存在です。「The Armed Man」は２０００年４月のロイヤル・アルバート・ホールの初演以来、１０００回をこえる演奏が行われています。
　ジェンキンスはウェールズ生まれ、カーディフ大学でオーボエを学び卒業後、ロンドンの王立音楽院で研鑽を重ねました。ジャズを愛し、「Nucleus」や「Soft Machine」にメンバーとして参加、作曲を手掛け始めます。クラシックをベースにしながらジャンルの壁を越えた作風で、「デルタ航空」、「デ・ビアス・ダイアモンド」、「英国航空」、「リーヴァイス・ジーンズ」のＣＭを手掛け、「アディエマス」プロジェクトで世界的にブレーク、日本でもベスト・セラー・アルバムとなりました。
　クラシックな作品では「レクィエム」、「スターバト・マーテル」、「クァーク」、「アームド・マン：平和のためのミサ」などがあり、クラシカル・ブリット・アウォードで「Lifetime Achievement」を受賞しています。
